The fourth round of HSBC SVNS 2024 kicked off in Vancouver with exceptional rugby sevens action, as teams completed their first two pool matches.
Argentina, leading the men’s competition, secured victories against Canada and Spain in Pool A. Great Britain, France, and Fiji also emerged victorious in both their matches, advancing to the quarter-finals on Saturday.
Antoine Dupont, the former World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year, made a memorable HSBC SVNS debut, leading France to impressive wins over the USA and Samoa, drawing the day’s loudest applause.
In the women’s competition, Australia continued their dominance with triumphs over Fiji and Japan in Pool B. France, New Zealand, and the USA also booked their quarter-final spots with two wins each.
Brazil stunned spectators by defeating Ireland 24-7 in women’s Pool A, showcasing the growing competitiveness of international rugby sevens ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
After three rounds, Argentina heads the men’s SVNS standings with 58 points, while Australia leads the women’s competition with 58 points, followed by New Zealand, France, and Ireland.
The event continues at 10:15 local time (GMT-8) on Saturday with final pool matches, quarter-finals starting at 15:55, and the last match at 19:28.
Sunday features semi-finals beginning at 11:59, culminating with the women’s and men’s finals at 16:43 and 17:23, respectively.
