Following a record-breaking Olympics for rugby sevens, World Rugby has confirmed the first five destinations and dates of the highly anticipated HSBC SVNS 2025.

HSBC SVNS 2025 Destinations

After rugby sevens’ huge success at the Paris Olympics, World Rugby has confirmed the first five destinations for the HSBC SVNS 2025. Furthermore, more events will be added soon.

Fans around the world can look forward to seeing the top 12 men’s and women’s teams showcase their skills in some of the most famous cities. The series begins at the Sevens Stadium in Dubai on 30 November – 1 December 2024. After that, the next round takes place in Cape Town at the DHL Stadium on 7-8 December 2024.

Perth Returns as a Host

Following Perth’s debut in 2024, which was a huge hit, the event will return to Australia’s west coast from 24-26 January 2025 at HBF Park. Meanwhile, Vancouver will host the fourth round on 21-23 February at BC Place, known for its lively atmosphere. Finally, the fan-favorite Hong Kong Sevens will follow on 28-30 March.

Remaining Events to be Announced

As for the remaining HSBC SVNS 2025 events, details, including the Grand Final, will be shared soon. So far, the five destinations announced today all featured in the 2024 schedule. This gives players and fans consistency and builds on the success of the first year of the revamped SVNS. Moreover, this global celebration of rugby sevens combines the sport with music, food, and entertainment in a festival-like atmosphere.

Gender Parity in Rugby Sevens

In 2025, HSBC SVNS will again fully embrace gender parity. All rounds will feature both men’s and women’s events, ensuring equal opportunities for all players. Additionally, the teams will also receive equal participation fees.

Notably, three new teams will compete in 2025. Kenya and Uruguay’s men’s teams and China’s women’s team earned promotion after winning the 2024 Sevens Challenger in Madrid.

The women’s teams are New Zealand, Australia, France, USA, Canada, Fiji, Ireland, Great Britain, Japan, Brazil, Spain, and China.

The men’s teams are Argentina, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, France, Fiji, South Africa, Great Britain, USA, Spain, Uruguay, and Kenya.

Excitement for HSBC SVNS 2025

World Rugby Sevens General Manager Sam Pinder said: “After rugby sevens’ success at the Paris Olympics, we are thrilled to announce the first rounds of HSBC SVNS 2025. We’re giving fans plenty of time to prepare for more exciting events in iconic locations.”

Record-Breaking Success at Paris 2024

Rugby sevens was a huge success at Paris 2024. Over 530,000 fans packed the Stade de France, and tens of millions watched worldwide. In fact, 11.6 million viewers in France alone tuned in to watch the men’s final, where the host nation defeated Fiji to win gold. Meanwhile, South Africa won bronze.

New Zealand retained the women’s title by defeating Canada, while the USA secured bronze. The event had the highest attendance for a women’s rugby competition, with 66,000 fans enjoying the games across all sessions.
