Team captains arrived at the National Stadium today to launch the tournament ahead of what promises to be an action-packed weekend of sevens rugby. Fans can look forward to a vibrant festival atmosphere, complete with family-friendly activities, interactive fan zones, and community programmes running across both days of the event. Last year’s Singapore SVNS winners Fiji (men) and New Zealand (women) will be defending their titles and aiming to continue their strong performances this season.

After two rounds of HSBC SVNS Series 2026, it is a three-way tie at the top of the men’s leaderboard, with Cape Town winners South Africa, Fiji, and Dubai champions New Zealand all locked on 32 points, while Olympic gold-medallists France, Australia, and Argentina are chasing hard.

Returning South Africa captain Siviwe Soyizwapi – who could break USA legend Perry Baker’s try-scoring record of 29 touchdowns at the National Stadium on his ninth visit to Singapore – warned that his side weren’t sitting on their laurels after becoming the first team to claim back-to-back Cape Town titles in front of their home fans in December.

“Cape Town Sevens went well for us, but it’s a new tournament in Singapore, so we can’t still think of that old victory,” Soyizwapi, who is back in the Blitzbok squad for the first time since the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles last May, said.

“We have had to start all over again. And we had to work harder to be able to come into this weekend and give an even better performance.

“I’m feeling very excited going into this weekend. It’s another opportunity for us to keep growing as a team. We want to build consistency. We want to get the new players coming into the squad to experience a bit of sevens.

How the revamped global sevens rugby season format works

“The camp that we had as a group, training together and trying to build that consistency and that synergy has been very exciting, which makes me excited for the weekend coming up.”

In the women’s competition, New Zealand and Australia traded first and second places in Dubai and Cape Town, and currently sit top of the table with 38 points each, ahead of a chasing pack featuring Japan, USA, France, Fiji, and Olympic silver medallists Canada.

After losing their long-held desert crown in the opening stop of this year’s HSBC SVNS Series, Australia got their own back a week later in South Africa in early December.

Speaking at the captain’s photocall, Australia’s skipper Isabella Nasser said the players were excited to return to competition after the post-Cape Town Christmas and New Year break.

“We’ve prepared really well,” she said. “Off the back of Cape Town when we got the win, we had a really good Christmas preparation and then into a couple of weeks post-Christmas. And we’re really excited to kick off in Singapore – we love Singapore, it’s one of our favourite tournaments, so we’re really pumped. We’re getting used to the heat and the humidity!”

The HSBC SVNS Singapore returns to the National Stadium in Singapore on 31 January and 1 February 2026, with ticket prices starting from $29 for youths (aged 4–17), $59 for adults and family packages available from $139.20. Tickets are available via
    TicketmasterSG.

Fans around the world will be able to catch all the action live on
    RugbyPass TV.

England Triumphs Over Scotland in Thrilling Calcutta Cup Encounter

Scotland’s Early Attack Stuns England, but Resilience Prevails

The game exploded into life from the very first whistle, with Scotland launching an audacious attack straight from their own 22. Duhan van der Merwe drew in defenders before releasing Blair Kinghorn, who in turn found Tom Jordan galloping down the left wing. A slick inside pass to Ben White saw the scrum-half race clear for his third Calcutta Cup try, stunning the English defence and setting the tone for a thrilling encounter.

England Fights Back with Tommy Freeman’s Power and Marcus Smith’s Accuracy

England, however, were in no mood to be overwhelmed. Almost immediately, they hammered away at Scotland’s defensive line, their forwards battering through phase after phase. The breakthrough came when winger Tommy Freeman powered his way over, his sheer determination dragging England onto the scoreboard. Marcus Smith’s conversion nudged England ahead 7-5 within ten pulsating minutes.

Tense Final Moments: Van der Merwe’s Late Try Almost Shakes England’s Lead

Scotland refused to be deterred. A lineout on halfway saw them shift the ball wide at speed, capitalising on England’s compressed midfield defence. The ever-dangerous Van der Merwe wreaked havoc down the left before the ball was recycled to Huw Jones, who gleefully touched down for his 16th Six Nations try—equalling the Scottish record. Finn Russell’s misfiring boot, however, kept England within touching distance at 7-10.

As the first half wore on, Scotland’s offloading game continued to stretch England, but Steve Borthwick’s men had their moments too. Just before the break, Ollie Lawrence surged through the midfield, threatening to turn the game on its head. England came within inches of a second try, but an ambitious offload from Lawrence sailed into touch, leaving the score 7-10 at halftime.

England Holds Firm for First Twickenham Win Against Scotland Since 2017

The second half saw England introduce a raft of reinforcements, with experienced hooker Jamie George leading the charge. The shift in momentum was subtle but significant. England’s patience and discipline began to tell, as Marcus Smith punished Scotland’s mounting penalty count, slotting a straightforward three-pointer to level the scores.

With an hour gone, fly-half Fin Smith—born to Scottish parents but donning the white of England—delivered a moment of class, launching a pinpoint kick deep into Scottish territory. Scotland’s resistance faltered under relentless pressure, and after multiple infringements, captain Maro Itoje instructed Marcus Smith to take the points. England led 13-10.

England Clinch Thrilling Calcutta Cup Victory with Grit and Resilience, Ending Twickenham Drought

As tension mounted, Fin Smith produced the kick of his young international career, landing a monstrous 54-metre penalty to stretch the lead to 16-10 with ten minutes to play. With the Calcutta Cup slipping away, Scotland needed something special—and Van der Merwe delivered. Finishing off a breathtaking counter-attack, he dived over in the corner to set up a nervy finale.

It all came down to Russell’s conversion. Already having missed two, the Bath fly-half’s radar was off once again, leaving Scotland a single point adrift. Desperation saw the Scots keep the ball alive into the 83rd minute, but England’s pack held firm, wrapping up the ball in a maul to bring a gripping contest to its conclusion.

As Itoje hoisted the Calcutta Cup aloft, England finally ended their Twickenham drought against Scotland—claiming the prized silverware for the first time since 2017. A win built on grit, resilience, and clinical finishing, it may just be the spark England needed to ignite their Six Nations campaign.

WALES 18-27 IRELAND

Ireland edged past Wales 18-27 in a pulsating clash at the Principality Stadium, securing their 14th Triple Crown and keeping their hopes of a historic three-peat alive in the 2025 Guinness Men’s Six Nations.

Fast Start from the Visitors

Sporting their alternate white strip, Ireland set the tone early, with Sam Prendergast launching the ball high into the electric Cardiff air. The hosts, under interim coach Matt Sherratt, fielded a much-changed side and started with intent, but it was the Irish who struck first. A bruising carry from Joe McCarthy laid the groundwork for Jack Conan to bulldoze over from close range. Prendergast’s conversion made it 7-0 to the visitors.

Ireland kept their foot on the gas, applying relentless pressure on the Welsh defence. A scrum penalty offered another opportunity, and the composed Prendergast slotted a 27-metre kick to extend the lead to 10-0 inside the opening 20 minutes.

Wales Find Their Rhythm

Wales needed a response, and it came swiftly. A loose Irish pass gifted the hosts field position, and when Ireland strayed offside, Gareth Anscombe coolly converted a penalty to put Wales on the scoreboard at 3-10.

Buoyed by the home crowd, Wales began to cause real problems for Ireland’s defence. Debutant Ellis Mee was a constant threat on the right wing, while Tomos Williams was inches away from scoring after a slick offload from Jac Morgan. The breakthrough eventually came following sustained pressure, as Ireland conceded another penalty. Before Anscombe could step up, the TMO flagged a high tackle from Garry Ringrose on Ben Thomas, resulting in a yellow card and further review in the bunker.

Anscombe’s penalty reduced the deficit to 6-10, and Wales weren’t finished. A perfectly executed driving maul sucked in Ireland’s defence, creating the space for captain Jac Morgan to power over the line. With Anscombe adding the extras, Wales headed into the break leading 13-10.

Ireland Rally After Ringrose Red

As the second half resumed, referee Christophe Ridley confirmed Ringrose’s yellow card had been upgraded to a 20-minute red. Wales seized the momentum, launching an early attack that resulted in a stunning finish from Tom Rogers in the corner after a blistering break by Blair Murray. Though Anscombe’s conversion drifted wide, Wales held an 18-10 advantage.

With Ireland soon back to a full complement, they clawed their way back. A breakdown penalty allowed Prendergast to narrow the gap to 18-13 before their relentless pressure finally told. Playing under advantage, Jamison Gibson-Park floated a pinpoint kick to the corner, where James Lowe leapt above Josh Adams to bat the ball inside for Jamie Osborne to touch down on his Six Nations debut. Prendergast’s conversion attempt was wayward, but Ireland had drawn level at 18-18.

Prendergast’s Nerve of Steel

With 15 minutes remaining, a penalty inside Wales’ 22 saw Prendergast step up and make no mistake, nudging Ireland into a 21-18 lead. Moments later, Bundee Aki forced a crucial turnover just inside the Irish half, presenting Prendergast with another long-range opportunity. Brimming with confidence, the young fly-half struck it sweetly, extending Ireland’s lead to six.

Wales weren’t done. A slick move released Mee down the left wing, and as he reached for the line, the TMO was called into action. The on-field decision was a try, but after a forensic review, it was ruled a knock-on—an agonising moment for the Welsh faithful.

With time ticking down, Ireland’s defensive discipline held firm. Another penalty in kicking range allowed Prendergast to put the game beyond doubt, sealing a nine-point victory and securing the Triple Crown.

Gibson-Park Runs the Show

Jamison Gibson-Park was named Guinness Player of the Match, once again proving instrumental in Ireland’s attack. His pinpoint kicking and game management reaffirmed his credentials as the leading contender for the British and Irish Lions’ scrum-half role.

Wales showed plenty of promise under Sherratt, pushing Ireland all the way in a thrilling encounter. But the visitors’ composure and big-game mentality ultimately made the difference as they march on with their sights firmly set on a third successive Six Nations crown.

BC Place will host the fourth round of the HSBC SVNS Series on 21-23 February as the tournament marks a decade in Vancouver.

Captains of the world’s top 12 men’s and women’s teams gathered on the shores of Sunset Beach on Tuesday in Downtown Vancouver ahead of the three-day event running across 21-23 February.

Teams were met with a traditional welcome from Mike Billy Sr, hereditary chief from Squamish Nation who shared two of their canoes. Mike Billy Sr and the team at Canoe Cultures are dedicated to the advancement of Indigenous arts and the preservation of the heritage art of the canoe. The captains discovered how the canoes symbolise local Indigenous culture, communicating identity, place and belonging.

Heading into the weekend, Canada women will be returning to home soil for the first time since making history last July by winning silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics and will be in Pool A. Here they will face Perth winners, Australia alongside Brazil and Spain.

One player to watch will be three-time Olympian, Charity Williams who sits at 99 career SVNS tries to date. Williams will be hoping to go a step further, securing the milestone of 100 tries, and 500 points on her homecoming back to Vancouver.

Olympic champions New Zealand lead the current standings following a valiant SVNS run most recently with victory in Cape Town and two silvers scooped in Perth and Dubai. Next up they will face China, Ireland and USA in Pool B. Pool C sees Fiji, France, Great Britain and Japan go head-to-head at BC Place.

It is extremely tight at the top of the men’s standings with Fiji, Argentina and Spain all level on 48 points at the top of the table.

Following gold in Perth and bronze in Dubai, Argentina will be hoping to continue their winning streak as they head into battle in Pool A along with rivals France, Great Britain and Kenya.

Third round hosts, Australia were drawn in Pool B together with Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa. Pool C has two of the three table-toppers in Fiji and Spain, who will be up against Uruguay and USA as they compete for the title.

The HSBC SVNS action kicks off at 11:18 local time (GMT-8) on Friday with pool matches. The pool phase continues from 10:30 on Saturday heading into the quarters in the afternoon. All the action rounds off on Sunday’s finals day which begins at 10:50 with the men’s and women’s finals at 17:05 and 17:41 respectively.

Building on Perth, the women’s final will once again be the tournament’s grand finale, taking centre stage on Sunday and closing out HSBC SVNS Vancouver in style.

This year’s Vancouver SVNS festival promises to be bigger than ever as the Canadian leg of the series celebrates its 10-year anniversary. Alongside the epic rugby sevens action, featuring the world’s best 12 men’s and women’s teams packed with Olympic stars, fans in the stands can enjoy global food offerings, live bands, interactive activities including a snowball obstacle course and a first for the SVNS Series, a competitive axe throwing competition from the captains!

Outside of BC Place, there will also be seven rugby-themed light installations set up in iconic spots around downtown Vancouver all weekend following on from the success of a similar fan-favourite activation when Taylor Swift was in town.

Fans are urged to secure their tickets to avoid disappointment and be part of the action. Remaining tickets are available from www.svns.com

Fans can watch the HSBC SVNS action wherever you are in the world, either via broadcaster partners or on RugbyPass. Following the blockbuster Olympic sevens competitions, an impressive roster of broadcast partners will bring the SVNS to a huge potential global audience.

Following a successful inaugural year for World Rugby’s revamped and rebranded global celebration of rugby sevens, HSBC SVNS 2025 features seven events across seven months in seven iconic global destinations.

Six regular season events are being played in Dubai, Cape Town, Perth, Vancouver, Hong Kong and Singapore to decide the HSBC SVNS League Winners, before the HSBC SVNS World Championship at Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Olympic Games rugby sevens competitions.

The top eight placed teams based on cumulative series points after six events in Singapore will compete in the ‘winner takes all’ World Championship, where the women’s and men’s SVNS Champions will be crowned.

Los Angeles will also play host to the high stakes promotion and relegation play-off competition where teams ranked ninth to 12th will join the top four teams from the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger, in a battle to secure their places in the next HSBC SVNS.

In a huge year for women’s rugby, World Rugby’s commitment to grow the women’s game is unwavering and all HSBC SVNS events will see men’s and women’s teams receiving equal participation fees and sharing the platform equally on the biggest stages around the world. For the first time in history, there is an all-female panel of match officials for the women’s SVNS 2025.

Hosts South Africa beat Olympic champions France 26-14 to win a thriller of a men’s final and claim their first HSBC SVNS title in Cape Town in nine years.

New Zealand came back from two tries down to beat the USA 26-12 in an end-to-end women’s final to bounce back from their final disappointment in Dubai and take an early lead in the HSBC SVNS standings ahead of the break before Perth hosts the third round in January.

France beat Dubai champions Australia 17-14 for women’s bronze, while Fiji claimed the men’s bronze with a convincing 47-10 win over Spain in a repeat of last weekend’s Dubai final.

With Springboks captain Siya Kolisi cheering on enthusiastically from the sidelines, a breathless first-half of the men’s final ended even at 14-14, as the two sides traded tries. Celian Pouzelgues, in just his second tournament, opened the scoring for Les Bleus.

To the vociferous delight of the home crowd, Donavan Don and Zain Davids hit back before Varian Pasquet went over in the corner on the stroke of halftime. Nerveless Paulin Riva landed the conversion from out wide.

HSBC Player of the Final Shilton van Wyk then won a foot race to the line, despite the attentions of the French defence – and he then released David Brits to extend the home side’s lead and secure their first HSBC SVNS title on home soil since 2015.

South Africa reached the final thanks to a hard-fought 19-12 win over impressive Spain, while France overcame Fiji 19-17 in a nail-biting repeat of the Olympic gold medal match.

The Eagles gave the Black Ferns Sevens an early scare in an exciting women’s final, but experience told, as they pulled away in the second half.

Nia Tolliver raced clear to score her seventh Cape Town try as USA sprinted into a 12-0 lead in the opening three minutes of a dramatic, end-to-end showpiece match.

New Zealand fired back before the break, taking a two-point lead courtesy of scores from HSBC Player of the Final Jorja Miller and Jazmin Felix-Hotham.

Kelsey Teneti added a third midway through the second half to extend the Black Ferns’ Sevens lead and Dhys Faleafaga then finished off a patient edge-to-edge attacking move to take the Olympic champions out of sight with a 26-12 victory.

The women’s semi-finals saw the USA again get the better of Australia, as they did in the Olympic bronze medal match, coming out 24-19 winners to reach today’s final. New Zealand’s Black Ferns Sevens were in unstoppable form, cruising past France 43-0 to reach the final in style.
